Renee Kutchera, baker at Kneadful Things in Whitelaw

Renee Kutchera

I started cooking and baking seriously in 2010 after having my first child. Growing up, my mom made everything homemade, and as I got older, I realized how special that was — the comfort, the care, the memories. I wanted that same feeling for my own family, so I began cooking and baking from scratch, slowly taking on more complex recipes as my children grew. That curiosity eventually led me to sourdough. It’s a process that requires patience, planning, and a kind of quiet attention that I’ve come to love. Baking has become my creative outlet outside my full‑time IT job — a place where I can slow down, work with my hands, and feed people in a way that feels meaningful. What makes Kneadful Things special is that it’s person‑to‑person. These loaves aren’t mass‑produced or rushed. They’re handcrafted, shaped with intention, and baked in small batches. Store‑bought bread simply doesn’t taste or feel the same. My favorite part of the process are the stretch‑and‑folds during bulk fermentation. Watching the dough strengthen and take shape is genuinely fun — it’s the moment where the loaf starts to come alive. Sharing food has always been a big part of my family’s memories, and I love being able to help create those moments for others. Whether it’s a weekly loaf or a special flavor for a gathering, I’m grateful for every bake that becomes part of someone’s home.
